Northumberland covers around 5,000 square kilometres, and the building stock changes as you cross it. The south-east has former colliery terraces and post-war estates around Ashington, Bedlington, Blyth and Cramlington. Market towns like Morpeth, Alnwick and Hexham have Georgian and Victorian stone centres, many inside conservation areas. Further north and west you find sandstone farmhouses, steadings and cottages, often with lime mortar and solid walls.
That variety is why we start every job by looking at the building itself – its age, walls, roof and access – before suggesting how to approach it.
We do not only work in the towns listed above. If you live in a village or a rural property anywhere in Northumberland, get in touch and tell us where you are. For remote locations we will talk through access, deliveries and timings at the start so there are no surprises.
Most of the county is covered by Northumberland County Council for planning and building control. Inside the Northumberland National Park, the National Park Authority is the planning authority. Parts of the coast are within the Northumberland Coast National Landscape (formerly the AONB), and many town centres are conservation areas. We will help you work out which rules apply to your property.
Share a few details and photos if you have them. We will get back to you to talk it through and arrange a visit if it makes sense.
